Cultural exchange enhances understanding, brings new dimensions, and strengthens international relations. We are confident about the potency of cultural contacts in enhancing the learning process at Apex College. On November 26, 2024, Apex College was honored to receive 10 students and Professor Anup Shrestha of the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, under the Apex Cultural Exchange Program. The special program was designed to acquaint our overseas visitors with the diversity of Nepali culture and encourage productive cross-border interactions.
The event was a vibrant blend of group interactions, educational-style discussions, Nepali food, and cultural dance performances. 24 Apex students actively participated to make the activity an interactive and participative one for all.
Highlights of the Cultural Exchange Program
1. Group Interaction
The program started with a warm reception, followed by interactive sessions between Apex students and their Australian peers. The group discussions provided a platform for students to exchange ideas on various issues, such as academic experiences, cultural similarities, and career aspirations. The discussions created curiosity and appreciation, allowing participants to learn about various viewpoints while discovering common values.
2. Exploring Education Styles
Education is a natural aspect of all cultures, and the program provided an opportunity for a reflective exchange of differences and similarities in the Nepalese and Australian education systems. Both student groups shared their classroom experience, learning processes, and academic expectations. The exchange of information emphasized the role of practical learning, research-based practices, and student engagement in shaping global education.
3. Nepali Food
One of the most fascinating parts of the discussion was the one that included Nepali food. The visitors learned about popular Nepali and how spices form the core aspect of flavoring food. It was amazing to learn that food is deeply connected with celebrations, ceremonies, and Nepali existence. The discussion highlighted that Nepali cuisine is not only a question of taste but also of history, community, and sustainability.
4. Cultural Dance
Another fascinating topic of discussion was Nepal's rich dance culture. From the graceful Newari dances to the energetic Lakhey and Maruni performances, the visitors gained an insight into how dance plays a vital role in maintaining Nepalese traditions and expressing cultural identity. They were particularly interested in witnessing how these art forms are being updated and sustained among younger generations.
The Apex Cultural Exchange Program was not just any event, it was a celebration of diversity, learning, and friendship. Through actual interaction, shared experience, and cultural understanding, the activity was able to connect two academic communities from two opposite corners of the world. Apex College is proud to have established a culture that values international exposure and cross-cultural learning.
Our students' enthusiasm and our international guests' interest made this endeavor a grand success. With every such event organized, we aim to further build our international connections and give more opportunities to students to learn beyond borders.
